TIME WARP - started my journal
I’m glad to finally get this journal started. I’ve been wanting to for months…
I’m working on a lot these days. I’m actively writing a book called Corporate Whore that may be only a novella or something. It’s my first shot at straight-up fiction since my three year stint at screenwriting. I’ve only written scripts and essays during this time, so it’s definitely a change of pace, and I’m certainly not complaining…
You know idea of “books that write themselves”? I’d say Corporate Whore is one of them, it seems. My day job is such a joyous source of soap opera-esque bullshit, “truth is stranger than fiction” and the damn thing is writing itself. I just hope it turns out to be good and not just a first attempt at something that’s mediocre like most my first tries.
I’m also doing research on a proposal for a book I want to write called Girl’s Guide to Growing Up: A handbook for feminist teenagers. It requires so much research; I’d have to have some front money to complete it. If it goes as planned, it could really be amazing—something I would have died for when in high school. My friend Stef-o-knee may have a hand in it. That would certainly kick ass.
I’m also brainstorming my business idea, though it’s so big, it will be a while before I have that ready to go organizationally and in terms of capital. I’m basing it on an experience I had while in Oz back in 1998, and am taking a grassroots approach to its growth. More on that later.
Otherwise, I’ve got to do about 2 more drafts on Fibre, several drafts on Mother’s Little Pill (after my conference with Writer’s Boot Camp tomorrow), and pages for Buds (my Romantic Stoner Comedy). I also want to churn out another short called The Roommate because again, the roommates others and I have endured over the years are perfect for a short horror flick.
Speaking of ex-roommates, one of my old roommates is in Spin Magazine. Congrats to him! Let’s see how many more people I know making it in the cruel and difficult industries in which we choose to endeavor.
