a rant on society
We have all seen the ads on television. More so now that we have extended regular television to the greedy reach of Biotech companies. “Feel Bad? Take a pill.” And we wonder why our kids are addicted to drugs.
Diet Pills. Headache Pills. Behavioral pills. Attention Span. Anxiety. Depression. Chemical imbalances.
Ever consider these different types of people, personalities, and ailments to be normal? Meant to co-exist, so diversity makes societies work out their complexities, like evolution handles the chaos that is Mother Nature. We are manufacturing conformity in a bottle. Better yet, consider these traits to be abnormal after all but thank our preserved and dyed food diet for our chemical deformities.
First of all, we have evolved in different ways of thinking and being for a reason. There could have been a time when attention deficits and hyper activity were advantageous in human situations, not crucified on standardized tests. One problem lay in our desperation to function in dense populations with one another when really, humans are supposed to sustain on a smaller, village-sized scale. We evolved in a short time to turn out as hunter-gatherers and only recently—and rapidly—adapted to agriculture.
Our alleged “behavioral problems” are either not problems at all, or caused by the centralization. Centralization for agriculture is why we grew out of our hunter-gatherer tribes and thus our hunter-gatherer life-styles. Dense societies are hell on lower classes, minorities, and environmental responsibility. Classism, division of labor, sexism, and conformity—are traits developed by the onset and generally characteristic of crops.
Often food has been packaged and exported before the eyes of starving people. In third-world countries businesses introduce themselves to a once-resourceful land for its own people, then ravage, destroy, and deplete it so the locals who actually live there are left with nothing. Then when we want PR brownie points, we force our genetically altered foods on these starving countries. Often these donations are refused because it could not be proven that it’s not genetically modified and locals worry their own breeds will be depleted of productivity if they mingle and reproduce with man-made breeds.
Now we are forced to adapt to dense populations and its management. Not a normal social cycle to which we are accustomed; the grave need for hierarchy and categorization for control becomes crucial to existence. As a result, homelessness, starvation, debt, white collar crimes, slavery, oppression, suicide and drug addiction is abundant among what is self-labeled as an “advanced” animal.
In this highly populated system, people considered assholes or unfit for society, are left anonymous for most and undetected from public scrutiny. Politicians are elected on the basis of how a large number of people perceive her or him and to appease the masses must be charismatic or without strong convictions for the sake of being liked by everyone, despite his or her ability to do “the job”. Whatever the heck that is.
Masses are fickle. Masses are ignorant. And we are not even supposed to sustain ourselves in masses. And mass production is poison in our food.
Read food labels, People: High Fructose Corn Syrup. Red #16. Silicon Dioxide. Preservatives, chemicals, toxins. Spoon-fed learning disabilities. Liquid depression. Assembly line murder.
That crap is probably in most of what we eat—assuming most of us are buying non-organic, unnatural brands. Processed and manufactured foods. And the beloved FDA approves of it all. The same organization that brings us the Food Pyramid—its base of grains, pastas, bread do not occur in nature. Not that we should not eat them at all, but note that hunter-gatherer stomachs have not evolved to handle high amounts of aged and yeasty breads three times a day, every day. Our bodies weren’t built to process preservatives, chemicals, dyes, and refined grains (i.e. white sugar, white wheat flour)… yet Americans frequently consume it.
Losing weight on that anti-carb diet? Don’t kid yourself. You are losing weight because you are finally allowing your innards to readjust to the overdose of wheat, yeast, corn, and sugar it has been coated with all your life. Try a diet without these things and find that you have withdrawal for the first 3 days, then high energy and are no longer depressed.
We develop allergies to these foods. Our bodies, not equipped for these sorts of chemicals, form and over-abundance of bacteria to breakdown these materials. They not only over populate and dominate the intestinal flora so proper nutrients don’t make it through, they emit toxins.
We need to manage our intestinal flora. Not take pills. Be macrobiotically aware. Sound scary? Like a high maintenance, expensive diet? It is, thanks to a desperation to maximize profits by genetically altering our food, preserving it, and chugging it out of one mill so all the above is necessary for supplying a whole country and then some.
Buy organic and natural foods—suddenly your budget for the month is depleted on groceries alone. It costs a fortune to eat well; how convenient that poor folks or working-class families suffer from diabetes, obesity, ADD, etc. as a result of unhealthy food being what is affordable. The point is that we shouldn’t need the biotech industry to rebalance our chemicals, we can do it ourselves by eating right.
If we have laws, courts, charities, and schools for what is just and humane, then replacing food with pills so that the nutrients we lack are repaired with chemicals is not keeping life fair to most. Diversity in our environment, societies, and diet is what keeps us alive and well, not conformity.
